Please read our Terms below for details. PLEASE NOTE: We take our photos in natural light outdoors and as a result there are sometimes reflections or shadows or glare shown in the blades. In person none of these exist; we will say so in the description if it may be otherwise. This is just a very beautiful old knife and a rare one to be found at all today, even less so in such nicely preserved condition. It was made by Lamson & Goodnow, America's oldest surviving cutlery maker, dating to something AROUND the Civil War. We are NOT saying it was used in the war or was of military issue but it does date back that far.

As old as it is, too, it remains today as useful and dazzling as it did when it was new, sacrificing NOTHING in the way of strength, balance, precision and performance. Even if its markings were missing there could no disputing its origins as a Lamson knife; NO ONE else made their kitchen knives with its inlaid pewter bolster quite like this. It was made many years ago in Shelbourne Falls, Massachusetts by this proud American maker and you'll need to hold it in your hand only once to recognize you're looking at one of the finest kitchen knives ever produced in the USA. Straight out of the box it is ready to deliver world-class performance to the serious chef and collector alike. It was hand-forged from fine, virgin cutlery steel at a time when such attention to quality was the norm rather than the exception, and it has everything going for it one could hope to have in such a piece.

In addition to the superb quality of its carbon steel it was hafted with exceptionally fine, dark, old-growth rosewood handles pinned in iron over a full and tapered tang. It packs an 8" blade (knife is 12-5/8" overall), a handy, nearly universal size that knows no limit of usefulness and versatility, from carving and slicing meats to making sandwiches by the dozen.

Obviously, in well over 100 years it's been used but its condition is excellent with no problems, as the photos clearly show. Its blade shines like stainless but it is, in fact, carbon steel and must be kept dry during use. If you've never used carbon steel knives before, you're in for a treat.

Only a true carbon steel blade can consistently attain the razor-sharp edge that makes using it a true pleasure you must wipe the knife after every use to avoid stains and rusting, but will be richly rewarded with superior performance! It is RAZOR sharp now, as it was when we obtained it in trade from a local collector. Whether you're a chef, collector or simply someone who appreciates the finest cutlery for any purpose, here's an excellent opportunity to upgrade your arsenal with something singularly special, that you'll rightly come to think of as an heirloom.
