It provides introductory comments and a collection of unit narrative histories of the First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Regiments of Minnesota Infantry; the First and Second Companies of Sharpshooters; the First and Second Regiments of Mounted Rangers; the Second Regiment of Cavalry; Bracketts Battalion of Cavalry; Hatchs Independent Battalion of Cavalry; the First Regiment of Heavy Artillery; and the First and Second Batteries of Light Artillery. Each unit is presented with a comprehensive history including all its battles and campaigns, including the famed First Minnesota at Gettysburg that bravely suffered the highest percentage of casualties of any Union regiment in any Civil War battle a feat President Coolidge declared has few, if any equals and no superiors in the history of warfare, entitling the Minnesotans to rank as the saviors of their country. The bindings don't match but hit is an exceptionally nice, handsome book set. The exteriors or both books are sharp, bright and clean with no bumping or discernible edge wear. There is a touch of rubbing to Volume II in the original binding. Both books come protected in clear, acid-free, Mylar dust jackets (see photo #3). The books are complete with all original pages and and the interiors of both books are in fine condition. There isn't a mark inside either book. The interiors are clean and the pages are in excellent condition. There is now writing, smudging, foxing, pasteboards, stamps or other markings. This is not an ex-library books set. The books feature marbled page ends and end pages.
The books are solidly bound throughout; they have no looseness or lean and all four hinges are solid. The books have original, publisher-reinforced interior hinges to strength these key areas indicating that the publisher spared no expense in producing this fine book set.
