Gettysburg Civil War Shells with Original 1890s Early Collection Label RARE

  
Here is a great lot of 4 shell fragments from an early Gettysburg collection found in 1899. The largest shell fragment with threads on back measures about 3 x 2. The threaded fuse hole shows on the back. Original label reads: Bliss Farm Gettys. Part of the label fell off when picked up and is detached and separate but still intact. About 40% of the label is still attached. A smaller shell fragment is about. 1.5 x 7/8 inch. These are from an early family collection of Gettysburg found pieces, mainly picked up in 1899. The collection was found in the basement of an old family house in New Cumberland, PA. This is the first time these pieces have ever been offered for sale.

Beautiful contemporary labeled shells picked up almost 36 years after the battle. As you know, pieces like this with early labels are rare.
