CIVIL WAR ERA CHILDS BONNET W FULL MODESTY RUFFLE CAPE FOR DRESS. DATING TO THE CIVIL WAR ERA. ACQUIRED FROM A MUSEUM DE-ACCESSION. FASHIONED OF A WHITE PIQUET COTTON WITH A FINE LINE TO THE WEAVE. THE BRIM IS PIPED IN THE CENTER WITH A LONG CAPE STYLE MODESTY RUFFLE.

TIES ATTACHED TO EITHER SIDE AND LINED IN PLAIN COTTON. SEVERAL TRACE STITCHES ARE ON THE BOTTOM EDGE, NOT CERTAIN IF A TRIM WAS ON THE EDGE OF THE RUFFLE. FRONT TO REAR: 7 INCHES. TOP TO BOTTOM: 15 INCHES. Often for proper fit, hang, and wear ability, pieces will need to be altered and/or adding a hook or snap here or there, with a seam closure or strengthening needed.
