After Shiloh the regiment was described as being continually at the front in the march on Corinth.
They were mustered out of the service in 1864. Wright had previously resigned his command as a number of other commanding officers had complained about Wright youth, he being 22 when he took command of the regiment.
The regiment was originally known as the 13th Missouri Volunteers, but following Shiloh they were allowed by Order of Secretary of War Stanton to change their name to the 22nd Ohio, as most of the men in the regiment were from Ohio. The sword is accompanied by copies from Wright's records.
