1st South Carolina Bowie Knife Etched Blade Civil War Palmetto Armory 1861

  
The 1st South Carolina Volunteer Infantry Regiment (Colored) was a Union Army regiment during the American Civil War, formed by General Rufus Saxton. It was composed of escaped slaves from South Carolina and Florida. It was one of the first black regiments in the Union Army. It doesn't get any better than this! Original 1861 Palmetto Armory Civil War era bowie knife. This knife is dated to 1861, early Civil War era. Knife has a 10 clip point blade. Etched on one side of the blade is a banner inscribed "1st SC Vol Inf Regt US". Maker mark on the blade. Sheath and knife are in very good condition with no pitting and 90% of the blade still shiny. Sheath shows wear on one edge, but is in overall good condition.

From my grandpa's estate. He collected for over 40 years. The knife was probably issued and then requisitioned by the 1st SC US and the blade was etched and dated 1864.
