This is an example of an U. Cavalry Sword, Model 1840 and is one of the many imports used during the American Civil War. This particular one is mounted with curved blade that measures 36 1/4 inches in length. The blade remains in good condition with some surface staining and a couple of minor nicks to the cutting edge and is well marked by the maker "R&C" on the ricasso. The multi-branched brass guard has very richly patined and remains tight and sturdy. The wooden hilt has lost its leather wrap and only a portion of the twisted wire is still present. The metal scabbard has survived in very nice condition with no dings and has beautifully patined as well. Overall measuring 43 7/8 inches in length. Be sure to add me to your favorites list.
