ORIGINAL & VERY GOOD Condition G&JW Hawksley Civil War Pewter Whiskey Hip Flask. This is an ORIGINAL Civil War-era pewter hip flask manufactured by G.
Hawksley (George and John William Hawksley) of Sheffield, England. Hawksley was in business in the 19th century and into the 20th. The flask is made of pewter, the metal used during that era for whiskey hip flasks since it didn't impart a metallic taste to the alcohol.
The flask is made in three parts: (1) The main flask (4.75" x 2-5/8" x 1"); The threaded cap (7/8" diameter); and (3) The drinking cup (2.5" x 2-5/8" x 1.125). Two Hawksley hallmarks appear on the flask (see images above): one inside the drinking cup B/G. Hawksley" and one on the cap "G. The flask is in VERY GOOD condition, with only one dent in the side of the cup. The cap may have had cork inside it, but it has long since disappeared. Here's an opportunity for the advanced Civil War collector or re-enactor to obtain a period hip flask, as carried by soldiers of both sides in that terrible conflict. Please scroll downward to see the final three images!
I'm a militaria collector like you and I do this as a sideline to my own collecting. Nonetheless, I'll handle your order in a business-like and professional manner.
