Fantastic and extremely unusual Civil War Era Memorial Plaque gifted to US Army KIA Private HARMON WHITTON of the 10th Vermont Infantry "E" Company. RARE US Army United States CO E. Whitton was born in 1832 in Bennington County Vermont. He was a Resident of Manchester Vermont in his youth and enlisted on 12/22/1863 as a Private. On 1/5/1864 Whitton was mustered into "E" Company in the VT 10th Infantry Regiment. On 6/6/1864 Whitton passed in the line of service of disease in Columbia Hospital, Washington DC at 34 years of age. Whitton is buried in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. PLOT: Section 27 Site 727. (Oldest Section in Arlington) (Memorial ID 16889684). This beautiful civil war hand-painted lithograph memorial showcases Whitton front and center surrounding a variety of significant Civil War battle scenes and historic events. A list of events and scenes are Gettysburg Chantilly, Alabama & Keasarge, Malvern Hill.

Donaldson, Fredericksburg The plaque expresses wonderful rich colors and features a colored tintype (ferrotype I believe) front and center. The ferrotype featuring Whitton is in great condition and is wonderfully displayed and secured in the center of the escutcheon.

The plaque is housed in what looks to be the original period wood frame with what appears to be a gesso trim. The back of the frame is backed by board with period hanging hardware with metal wire.

Title" A Tribute to the Memory of the Fallen Brave". Across the bottom is marked: J. Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1864 W. White, in the clerk's office of the District Court of Massachusetts, W.

Condition: As you can see, this piece is in incredible condition aside from the two minimal white water stains on the bottom left and right. The tintype is in great condition as well with some minor signs of age. Sight: 11 1/2" by 16" (tintype 2 1/2" by 3 1/4"). Like most, I picked up the collecting bug many years ago when I was younger rummaging through the nooks and crannies of my grandparent's summer house in upstate New York. Today, you can still see me doing the same thing, only I don't fit through much anymore but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the thrill of the hunt. Since I know you have the same eclectic tastes as I do because your reading this, please check out my other items section as I always have new unusual stuff coming in!

It is my believe that the condition of an item is subjective, so I encourage you to look over each photo for your own condition assessment and when needed, inquire about additional photos or information regarding any of my items.
