We are offering for sale a Federal Eagle Breast Plate in wonderful condition. This plate measures 2 1/2 inches in diameter and is lead filled with two attaching wires that are fully intact. There is a name and other writing on the back Looks like W. Mesick some other writing I cannot make out an s with a line in it and a II indicating a second?
We tried to picture this for you. I searched the Nation Park Service Records and found there were three William Mesicks.
One was in an Ilinois Artillery Regiment, the second with a middle initial of L which matches exactly from the 11th illinois Infantry, and the third in the 14th Regiment of Pennsylvania Calvary, aka 159th Volunteers. Since I got this at a yard sale in the 1970s but do not remember where, probable in Wisconsin. It would make sense that it belongs to the Infantry Soldier of the 11th Illinois. It is in great shape, and tentatively identified which is very neat. Further investigation may give you more information on this person. A great federal Eagle plate from the Civil War!
