A fabulous 3 piece original 1850 / 1860 lady's summer gown, created in sheer gauze decorated with luscious hot pink silk satin ribbon and the most intricate various lace on the edges of the ribbons. The delightful off the shoulder bodice is absolutely the epitome of femininity. Completely lined in soft white chintz with 6 wooden stays; the 4 center ones are very thin and short. The various laces are extremely fine and delicate, it reminds me more of tatting. The top 1.5" wide lace holds the drawstring (this is what keeps it up properly to sit on the shoulders) that ties in the back, even finer and more delicate very thin 1/2" lace on each edge of the narrowly pleated ribbon. All this over a fanned center that ends at the waist with a double layer of ruching. The armyces and waist are piped. A back closure with not typical hook/eye but 13 closed hooks that must be pushed open. Be sure to closely examine the photos as the details are too much to describe. A separate waistband belt with very lovely matching ribbon bows and ties that drape down the back ; the back very long tie is torn on the edge but can easily be repaired if you take some of the very wide hem and use it as for the replacement. The large bow is set in place w no need to do anything except close the back. The skirt, of course, is very tightly cartridge pleated and very very full.

More gorgeous pink ribbons and lace is draped in doubles. It will need a hoop or crinoline for it to be displayed properly.

Please take notice that I have used a white flounced petticoat that is being shown thru the sheer skirt. This skirt is solid w no pattern or print. This fabulous gown is in extremely good condition; there are a few age marks, some of the very delicate lace is loose. The overall fabric is quite sound and the silk satin ribbon is also. The lace has very few broken brides.

This type of gown, especially in summer. Is rarely, especially in this condition decorated with such wonderful finery! It is darling as they all are, but it does have wear. The print is wonderful and of course, the hand sewing is meticulous.

I love the tiny gatherings at the top, and would love to know how they did it. Measurements are 8" underarm to underarm, bodice is 3.5" long and total is 22", sleeves are 3" long. There is not a back closure, each back panel has a large patch. A very interesting dress as I believe it was passed down more than once.

There is holes as you can see in the bodice and there are some on the skirt that are hard to see unless you hold it apart. Our storage and office areas are smoke free environments.
