This is a first edition of this important civil war work, published in 1682. It is in very good condition, slight cracking to the top of the front hinge but otherwise complete and intact. This work covers the entire period from King Charles accession to the throne, through theCivil War and the interregnum presided over by Oliver Cromwell, to the re-introduction of the monarchy with Charles II. Whitlock was an MP from 1626, and was on several of the parliamentary committees, so was present at many of the events he records. He rose to become Commissioner of the Great Seal under both Oliver and Richard Cromwell, and President of the Council of State.
