Civil War Era Union Army Model 1833 Leather Socket for Cavalry Carbines. This socket was attached to the saddle strap and would secure the barrel of the carbine when not being used. This prevented the carbine from bouncing around when riding. This example is in excellent condition. No rips or tears in the leather, no crazing or cracking of the leather. It is still soft and supple. There are no markings on the socket. These were used by the US Cavalry from the mid-1830's up through the late 1880's. No Civil War or Indian War Collection is complete without one. This is a nice representative example that has ages well over it's 150+ year life. Check out my other items.
