The wool material does have dust from storage as photographed. This fine condition original is a recent acquisition from a very old Harrisburg PA estate. The condition is amazing with only one notable moth hit and some wear around the wool at the paste board crown as photographed. The vast majority of period Forage Caps are in far less condition with numerous issues.
This iconic Civil War Forage Cap is from the notable "Wilson's Zouaves" which participated in 20 campaigns deep into the South in the early years of the war. The unit was made up of mostly Bowery area gang members from New York. A wonderful addition to any advanced headgear collection.
