This Civil War Era gown is made from an iridescent gold and gray pin striped silk. It's lined in brown glazed cotton, It has small hand overcast eyes in back with hooks and is trimmed with silk velveteen. It has pretty bell shaped sleeves that goes to points. The skirt is box pleated to the waist seam and has a few cartridge pleats in back. The sleeves have dropped shoulders with self piping around the armholes.
I didn't find anything major to mention, it has underarm fade, some opened seams (some bodice seams are more like a basting stitch, you might want to tighten them up) is missing some of the velvet ribbon on the edge of the skirt to protect the hem. The bodice may have been made larger there's a narrow panel under the arm and gussets on the sleeves under the arms, but I think it was done period to the dress as the lining is also a match to the lining, possibly for maternity and that is why seams are basted to return it back? The bodice is lined with muslim, the skirt with brown polished cotton, there are pockets in the side seams of the skirt.Fabric is in great condition, I don't think I ever said this about a CW dress, but I don't see a problem with gently wearing it if you choose to. It's even a pretty good size for the time, it's 35 inches around the bust, across the back shoulder is 14 1/4, waist is 28 1/2, hips full and waist to hem is 44 inches long.
