Antonis Kanas (1915 - 1995) was a Greek painter, born in Smyrna, Asia Minor. He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts, where he graduated in 1948, under Umbretos Argyros and Epaminondas Thomopoulos, while he also studied engraving under Yiannis Kefallinos. Kanas, deeply influenced by the work of the English seascape painters, focuses on the theme of boats, shipwrecks, port views and generally island life. His seascapes are characterized by impressionistic trends, while his ships are distinguished for their high degree of clarity and purity.
Antonis Kanas is ranked among the great outdoors painters of the 20th century in Greece, whose art is characterized by color sensitivity and color luminosity. He presented his work in many solo or pan-Hellenic exhibitions in Greece and abroad.
