Antique Victorian American Civil War era purple taffeta semi mourning day gown, with large crinoline skirt, with tapered waist bodice, with black lace and beadwork detail to neck and sleeves. The dress fastens to the bodice front via a series of hooks and stitched loops, with the skirt having an integral pocket, plus there is also a small hidden coin pocket to the waist band. The dress is photographed using a crinoline petticoat which is not included in this sale. AGE Circa early 1860's SIZE Bodice Length (shoulder to waistband) - 15" Bust - 30" Waist - 24" Sleeve - 20" (shoulder to cuff) Skirt Length Front - 40" Length Back - 42" The gown is in a good condition for age, although there is a small "v" tear to the bodice. The beadwork trim to the collar has started to come away and is lose, plus the cream lace trim to the inside of the collar has started to come away, and would need a stitch or two to repair.
Most of the hook/stitched loop fastening to the bodice are missing (pinned into place for photographs), plus a small section where skirt meets waistband has a split to the seam so would need a stitch repair. Th dress is over 150 years old, and whilst all of the major faults have been listed, there are other minor issues, such as loose threads and tin holes to the skirt, where old length adjustments have been made.
