Its busk was removed and the back/shoulders let out. The darts were let out, but I have resewn them and replaced 2 of the long stays with originals from my collection. The sleeves are beautifully long and funnel shaped, trimmed with epaulettes and self-frills. The skirt is unlined, but has a shallow hem facing with gorgeous hand-stitches visible! The skirt is trimmed with two hand-sewn tucks.
Definitely what fashionable lady of the 1850s would wear in the heat of summer! The skirt is attached and the dress opens at center. This gorgeous dress is great for careful display, inspiration and study.
Condition: A few small scattered holes, repairs, etc. Some of the tuck(s) are loose and want restitching. As shown, The dress displays very well with the majority of issues disappearing into the pattern. It is possible, I think, to return the dress to its original proportions with careful examination and technique. The chest is about 39.
The waist is about 28. The front length is about 39 inches. Please note: Measurements are approximate and should be taken as maximum. Antique clothing items are not wearable UNLESS specifically labeled so in the description. The item "ANTIQUE PRE CIVIL WAR ERA LADY'S SUMMER DRESS c.
